Indigenous Peoples Day, Oct 5 - Oct 8, Nevada City

There is a really exciting, local event coming up in early October: Indigenous Peoples Day.

It is 4 days of events taking place in the Nevada City, Grass Valley area. The event starts on Friday night, Oct 5 with an opening cermony by the local Maidu tribe. At sunrise the next morning there will be a calling back the salmon ceremony at sunrise at Bridgeport, on the Yuba river. Then the event continues with events on Sunday and Monday, with events at the Tsi-Akim Maidu Cultural Center in Grass Valley and the Miners Foundry in Nevada City.

Note: There used to be a celebration on October 8th for some lost explorer, but I think that this should be a much more exciting event!

Local radio station, KVMR will be on the air live on Sunday and Monday. If you're not close enough to catch the radio waves on 89.5, you can listen live on their internet radio feed from www.kvmr.org
